Summer is on its way, and with it comes days at the park, the beach, the backyard. But as the sunny days approach, it's vital that we remember to treat our skin with care.

According to Kathleen M. Welsh, MD, approximately 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime, making it likely that the terrible disease will touch you or someone you love. But the good news is that when it's caught early, skin cancer has a 98% cure rate. That's why raising awareness about the early detection of skin cancer is vital.

To help raise this much needed awareness, Kathleen M. Welsh, MD has partnered with the American Academy of Dermatology's fundraising event, Skin Cancer, Take a Hike.

As a way to raise funds for Spot Skin Cancer programs and services, Dr. Welsh will be strapping up her hiking boots and hitting the trails of Mt. Diablo on September 12, 2015.
